Guy Booth, tenor

Guy Booth graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music, where he was the recipient of Queensland Conservatorium’s Jeffrey Black Scholarship (2004) and the Donald Penman Prize for Ensemble (2003). Since completing his degree he has studied with Neil Semer in New York and in Germany.

Whilst at the conservatorium Guy performed the roles of the Drunken Customer in the Australian Premier of Andrew Schultz Opera Going into Shadows (2001), The Herald in Burning Fiery Furness (2002), Sid in Albert Herring (2006), Cadmus in Semele (2003), and the role of Watchful in Pilgrim’s Progress (2002). Guy was awarded first place and the people's choice award in the Dame Joan Sutherland Aria competition (2002).

More recently Guy was awarded First Place in the South East Aria and Concerto Competition (2007), along with First place in the National Lieder Competition (2007)

He was also a finalist in the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program (2007) and the Australian National Aria Competition (2007).

Guy has performed with Opera Queensland in Verdi Requiem & Tosca (2003), Carmen (2004), Romeo & Juliet and Lucia Di Lammermoor (2006), and Nabucco in (2007). In 2005 Guy performed in Tristan und Isolde as part of the Queensland Music Festival as well as playing the role as the 1st priest in St Mathew Passion for the Queensland Bach Society.

On the concert platform Guy has performed in opera recitals in Opera Under The Stars Ormiston House Queensland (2004), Brisbane Mayors Opera In The Park Queensland (2004), in 2003 & 2007 Guy performed in Concerts throughout Germany in Cregligen, Rotterdam, Aub, and Coesfeld for the Ars Musica.

As a Developing Artist for Opera Queensland in 2008, Guy will cover the role of Fiorello in Barber of Seville (April), perform the role of Armed Man in the traveling production of The Magic Flute (July), and join the ensemble for Turandot (October). Guy will also perform in concert with the Queensland Philharmonic orchestra at the Brisbane Town hall in November.
