Warwick Potter

Warwick Potter is one of Australia's leading conductors having debut engagements with both Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) as well as multiple returns with West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) in 2010. In addition to his duties as BPO's Musical Director, he is also Conductor - Queensland Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony, Conductor - University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Conductor - Queensland Young Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. He has previously conducted WASO on more than ten occasions including a concert with "The Panics" which was recently broadcast on Triple J. He has also worked with Darwin Symphony Orchestra in its recent seasons.

Trained at Royal College of Music, London as a bassoonist, he won every bassoon prize available to him including an Exhibition Scholarship. He subsequently enjoyed a successful freelance career before moving to Australia in 2002. Since then he has played Guest Principal Bassoon with both QSO and WASO as well as making multiple national tours with Australian Chamber Orchestra. As a conductor, he has worked with many community and youth groups both in this country and the UK including City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra, Perth Concert Band, Perth Oratorio Choir and Western Australian Youth Orchestra.

Future engagements include conducting Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" at the prestigious Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival in 2010. He has also recently accepted an invitation to conduct Walton's "Portsmouth Point" with Queensland Youth Symphony during a joint concert with Colorado Springs Youth Symphony later this year. In 2011, he will be an adjudicator for the finals of Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition in the UK as well as conducting Bernstein's "Symphonic Dances" from "West Side Story" with QYO Wind Symphony. Warwick continues to be contracted to Australian Music Examinations Board to help re-write the bassoon syllabus in time for its main stream release in 2012.
